Meeting HITECH requirements for "Diagnosis Status"

Federal HITECH rules now require eligible providers to document the status of any patient diagnosis in the record, indicating whether the recorded diagnosis is Active, Inactive or Resolved. The rule reads as follows:

§170.302 (c) Maintain up-to-date problem list.
Enable a user to electronically record, modify, and retrieve a patient's problem list for longitudinal care in accordance with:
(1) The standard specified in §170.207(a)(1); or
(2) At a minimum, the version of the standard specified in §170.207(a)(2).

Medicfusion Providers may enter or alter a diagnosis status in the diagnosis sub-section of the patient chart or SOAP:

Upon opening the Diagnosis sub-section, Providers will see a dropdown selection tool displaying with each diagnosis selected to choose from Active, Inactive or Resolved:

Providers, staff and others may review diagnosis status wherever a patient diagnosis is reported in Medicfusion, including:
  • SOAP Notes
  • Superbills and Fee Slips
  • Pulse Reports
  • ePrescribing
