HITECH News!
Medicfusion EMR is approaching our HITECH testing and certification date. We expect to be through testing and certification by year-end, comfortably in time for our customers to qualify for federal incentive funds. With our certification complete and your clinic fully implementing Medicfusion EMR, you will be able to apply for federal incentive funds.
Meanwhile, in addition to fully implementing Medicfusion to qualify, you will continue to see certain changes in Medicfusion that specifically relate to HITECH software requirements. Recent examples include the following:
- Updates to "user access controls."
- Implementation of PHI Communication preferences -- If you are not currently recording these for your patients, please begin to do so immediately, as this is a federal requirement you must meet.
- Automated calculation of BMI -- If you are not currently recording height and weight for your patients, please begin to do so immediately, as this, too, is a federal requirement you must meet.
Soon-to-be-released examples will include:
- Smoking status in the SOAP.
- e-Prescribing -- optional upgrade through a certified partnership with DrFirst and SureScripts, and a requirement for all providers of all specialties in order to qualify for HITECH funds.
- Growth charting for boys and girls in the SOAP.
Physicians applying for funds must complete CMS "attestation" and should plan to do this in 2012, attesting to meaningful use of Medicfusion EMR for the last three months of 2011. Meanwhile, please visit CMS to familiarize yourself with the process.
